I have to admit, I haven’t found any time recently to go and shoot much of anything. Hell, I haven’t even packed a camera with me. Younwouldnthink with the concept of daily practice that I tweeted about a while ago, tht it would get out shooting more….. Nope not a chance. And once again I find an excellent article to give me a good swift kick in the ass to get out there more.

Hope you enjoy it and it inspires you to get out and shoot.

The disaster in Japan is an incredible tragedy and our hearts go out to the people of Japan. Been reading about how the devastation in one part of the country is impacting the entire country. Even heard rumours that the Honda production facility here in Canada is down to half production due to parts shortages from Japan.
Here is an interesting article from USA Today about how the disaster in Japan is impacting the camera and camera accesory market here in North America.

Funny, I remember posting here qte awhile ago about how smartphone cameras were increasing in popularity and were becoming used more than DSLRs. Rolling Stone magazine posted an article showing popularity of cameras on Flickr and guess whatus climbing up the rankings fast? The dreaded iphone. Have a read here: http://bit.ly/jW4GgN

well, I went out and bought the camera connection kit, thinking it would be a help. Plugged in both the 1D MkIII and the 20D with a cable and all the photos on them showed up perfectly. In fact I was pleased to see all my RAW files in thumbnails. That surprised me since everything I read said that I could transfer RAW files but couldn’t view them in the photo app. So I rushed and bought PiRAWnha in order to adjust my RAW files on the iPad and save them as jpeg. Plugging in a SD card from my wife’s camera was no issue either. The only issue I’m having is one that everyone says I shouldn’t have…… Viewing photos and video on a thumb drive. I add mov files and jpegs and it seems that my lovely iPad won’t see any of them, specially if the jpeg has been edited and all the exif data is gone. Jpegs right from the camera transferred over to the thumb drive no issue, can see them all. and this after formatting the thumb drive FAT32 and creating a DCIM folder as everyone on the net says I should.
Anyone got any other bright ideas???

Had alot of fun shooting the OTtawa Inline Skate Festival with the new 1DMkIII. Performed flawlessly and the images turned out really well. THe autofocus performed terrific considering it was my first time really using AI Servo mode . Put a couple of the better images in the Sports section

Well, after doing some serious work on my desktop I finally plunged in a upgraded from Adobe CS2 to CS4. The computer was getting slow and needed a serious cleaning and surgery done to the registry. It now feels almost brand new. As for CS4, I’m really looking forward to it with some new adjustments in camera RAW and Bridge seems really nice to improve workflow. Lots of playing in post now.
And just to top things off, I finally pulled the trigger and picked up a Canon 1D Mark III camera body. Have only shot a couple dozen photos through it more to play with settings more than anything; but damn, is the autofocus fast! I’m also looing forward to playing with this new toy, just need some time to shoot. I was waffling between the 1Ds and and 1D, and overall I think this will be a good choice. I don’t need 5000+ pixel photos that are 25 – 35 Mb in Raw PER PHOTO! and besides how bigdo you really want your nose to be on a 22 inch monitor? The 1D MkIII is giving me approx 13 Mb RAw files and still 50 MB+ per tiff file. More than adequate for most printing.
Looking forward to playing around with both, now just to find the time!
